MATTING & GLASS
Matting:
There are various kinds of mat board available for your framing needs. The two brands we use are Crescent and Bainbridge.
Acid-Free matboard is used as a conservation technique for fine art work.
Regular matboard is used for all other kinds of artwork from poster art to collectibles
Glass:
Regular has no UV protection or reflection control.
Reflection Control is chemically finished to scatter light as it hits the glass, this created a matte finish that prevents glare and distortion.
Conservation is available in both clear and reflection control. Conservation glass uses a silica-based UV blocking agent that are cured onto the surface of the glass to produce a lite that enhances true colors and prevents art from fading.
Plexiglas is available in Regular, Reflection Control and Conservation options. Plexiglas is light weight and often used for high traffic areas, for pieces over 40X40 inches, or in youth areas.
DRYMOUNTING
Drymounting is a mounting technique that uses heat activated dry tissue adhesive to bond a piece of artwork to a mounting board, usually foamcore.
The tissue is placed in between the object to be mounted and the board. High temperature from the heating press liquifies the tissue, creating a bond.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
For minor nicks and scratches, use shoe polish to conceal them.
When cleaning the glass on your artwork, spray the cleaner on the paper towel then clean the glass. This prevents the cleaner from dripping down into the frame and ruining it.
Bounty paper towels are the best brand for cleaning glass, it leaves the least amount of lint.
If storing more than one piece of artwork, place them back to back or face to face. This prevents the hanging devices from scratching the frames.
